Storage Solutions For Your Child’s Toys

Storage Solutions For Your Child’s Toys

If you have children, you know how quickly they can accumulate toys and other items.  You also know how quickly those items can take over your home!  Providing simple and effective storage solutions for your child’s toys and books is the best way to keep the clutter under control as well as teach your child how to care for their things.

A Bin For Everything And Everything In Its Bin

Color-coded and labeled bins are a great way to keep toys organized.  Look for bins that either fit onto a shelving unit designed for that purpose, or can easily be stacked.  Choosing a different color for each type of toy makes it easy for your kids to clean up their own things and ensure they are in the right spot.  You can also consider making simple labels.  If your children do not read yet, use images to label the bins.  Print a picture of a car for a bin meant for toy cars, an image of a block for the bin where blocks go; each bin can be marked with a picture of the type of toy that belongs there.

Bins with lids can be stacked in a corner; you can also use canvas bins that slide right onto a shelving unit, or the type of unit designed with slanted shelves.  This last type allows your child to easily see what is in each bin, making cleanup a snap.

Safe And Organized Shelves

Shelving units are a great way to organize books and a whole lot more.  However, they can be tipped easily, so you should follow a few safety precautions.  For any shelving unit taller than your child, use wall anchors to hold the unit in place.  If you can, stick with shorter shelving units, since your child may attempt to climb up to get what he or she wants on the taller shelves.

Out Of Sight

To really get the toys out of the way, consider using options like under bed storage bins or a closet organizer, where your child can put everything away and out of sight.  This is a perfect choice in homes that are short on space, where even a small amount of clutter can become a large mess.

Keeping your child’s toys organized will not only teach them to take good care of their personal items, but will also free your home from the mess kids can bring along.
